New Study Identifies Revenues for Doubling of Social
Security Payout
Posted: 18 August 2010 - Huffington Post. The "debate" over Social Security mostly has been between those who say it is necessary to trim it back and others who want to maintain it as it is. No one has proposed expanding Social Security, much less a doubling of its payout. This study published by the New America Foundation makes a unique contribution to the ongoing debate because it shows that expanding Social Security is viable and indeed is the only way to provide retirement security to Americans going forward.

Europe’s Quiet Revolution: Redefining Power
in the 21st Century
Article: 30 July 2010 - PS/Public Service (UK), and EUSA Review, spring 2010. Europe’s social capitalism is an ingenious “workfare” framework that helps families and individuals to stay healthy, productive and working during a time of economic crisis. As a result Europe has far less inequality than the United States, and that in turn has resulted in lower incidences of other social ills such as homicides, people in prison, mental illness and level of trust.

How to Double Your Pension Payout
Article: Guardian, UK - 25 August 2010. Social security, one of the most successful and popular social programmes in American history, is currently celebrating its 75th year... An expansion of social security would be good for the macro-economy as well, because it would keep money in retirees' pockets and stimulate consumer demand. Also, social security plus would provide a stable, secure retirement for every American and contribute greatly toward a solid foundation from which to build a strong and vibrant 21st-century US economy.

Myth 10: Europe is Turning Into ‘Eurabia’ While its Own Population is Dying Out
Blog: 16 March 2010 – Washington Policy Watch. The facts are clear. Muslim immigration in Europe currently represents a mere 3% of Europe’s total population. This is hardly an Islamic tide. Hill argues that by raising the age of retirement, allowing a reasonable rate of immigration, increasing the number of women in the labor force, and continuing its long term productivity gains, Europe should be able to cope with demographic uncertainties and their impacts on its social systems.

Angela Merkel: The World’s ‘Most Valuable Leader’
Article: 18 August 2010 - Social Europe Journal. Also published as: Angela Merkel is Getting it Right 12 November 2010 - IP Global.
Keeping in mind that Merkel is the leader of the conservatives, her defense of “social Germany“ has been no less eloquent and thoughtful than that of her Social Democrat predecessor, Gerhard Schröder. During the economic crisis, and even before, she reasserted Germany’s desire to “retain essential elements of social protection” and to “secure the future of the social market economy".
